Wesley Shane Haggerty, a 37-year-old resident of Cabins, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm. This sentence was announced today in Elkins, West Virginia.

The case stems from an incident where Pendleton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance involving a firearm. Upon their arrival at the scene, Haggerty was apprehended following a brief foot chase. He was found with a pistol despite being legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to his criminal history, which includes seven felony convictions and two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions.

In addition to his prison term, Haggerty will be subject to three years of supervised release after serving his sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner on behalf of the government. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
