Carey Ann Trotter, also known as Carey Ann Metz-Wood, has pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The 41-year-old from Crab Orchard admitted to possessing over 10 grams of methamphetamine and nearly 26 grams of para-fluorofentanyl on July 1, 2024. She acknowledged her intention to use some substances and assist another individual in their distribution.
Trotter also admitted to possessing firearms despite a prior felony conviction that prohibits such possession. She had a Glock model 21 .45-caliber pistol, a CBC model 817 .17-caliber rifle, and a high-capacity magazine. Her previous conviction was for the delivery of oxycodone in Raleigh County Circuit Court on January 3, 2017.
Her sentencing is set for November 7, 2025. She faces five years to forty years in prison, at least four years of supervised release, and up to a $5 million fine.
Joshua Mason Trotter, her co-defendant from Crab Orchard, pleaded guilty earlier this year to being a felon in possession of firearms. He will be sentenced on September 26, 2025.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the plea and praised the investigative work by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
The case falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations through coordinated efforts from various task forces within the Department of Justice.
United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn presided over the hearing while Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum is prosecuting the case.
