Alfred Leslie Pittman, 37, from Harper Heights, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison and three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Beckley, West Virginia.
A federal jury convicted Pittman on May 5, 2025, after a one-day trial. According to evidence presented during the trial, Pittman was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by officers from the Beckley Police Department on April 26, 2023. During the stop, police found that Pittman had a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol with a chambered round and an extended magazine holding 32 rounds inside the vehicle.
Federal law bars individuals with prior felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. Authorities said Pittman knew he was not allowed to have a gun because of his previous conviction for first-degree robbery in Raleigh County Circuit Court on June 2, 2015. His criminal record also includes convictions for conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, domestic battery, and unlawful assault.
United States Attorney Moore Capito announced the sentence and recognized the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with the Beckley Police Department for their work on this case.
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk delivered the sentence. Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Joshua Hanks handled prosecution duties.
