Hetzon Marroquin Reyes, the owner and operator of A&M Homes, LLC in Morgantown, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for employing undocumented workers and committing tax fraud. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.
Reyes, also known as “Hector,” is a 41-year-old Guatemalan national who was residing in the United States on a temporary visa. According to court documents, he hired and harbored undocumented workers at his construction company. Reyes created fraudulent documents for these workers to present to inspectors from the West Virginia Division of Labor and used other individuals’ social security numbers on tax paperwork related to these employees.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas prosecuted the case. The investigation involved several agencies: the Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations, and Social Security Administration-Office of Inspector General.
The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice that focuses on combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protecting communities from violent crime.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the sentencing hearing.
