Ashley W. Grubb, a 45-year-old resident of Westover, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to making a false statement while purchasing a firearm. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.

Court documents indicate that Grubb provided inaccurate information at a firearms dealer in Morgantown, claiming the weapon was for his own use. However, it was determined that he was actually buying the firearm for another individual who is not allowed to possess firearms due to drug use.

Grubb could face up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted. The final sentence will be decided by a federal district court judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant legal factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Will Rhee. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi oversaw the proceedings.
