A Temple Hills, Maryland man admitted on Apr. 8 to sex trafficking between Virginia and Martinsburg, West Virginia, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.

Rodney Dale Johnson, age 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of sex trafficking. Court documents and statements made in court indicate that Johnson transported a victim from Virginia to Martinsburg for the purpose of engaging in sex acts at a hotel. Prosecutors said Johnson used threats, threats of force, and coercion against the victim.

Johnson now faces a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley Crockett is prosecuting the case for the government. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Virginia State Police.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.
