Marion County man receives 30-month sentence for illegal firearm possession

Russell Lee Kirk, a 43-year-old resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, has been sentenced to thirty months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Court documents and statements revealed that law enforcement officers discovered a firearm strapped to the steering column during a traffic stop involving Kirk’s vehicle. Due to previous convictions for malicious assault and firearms offenses, Kirk is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the West Virginia State Police. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
