Brice Allen Pomeroy, a 26-year-old resident of Hernshaw, West Virginia, has been sentenced to two years of federal probation. He was also ordered to pay $2,051.21 in restitution for obstructing mail. The sentencing took place today in Charleston.
Court documents and statements reveal that on May 11, 2023, Pomeroy discarded approximately 227 pieces of mail by placing them into a trash can outside a gas service station in Charleston. The theft amounted to over $2,000 in cash or gift cards.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentencing and praised the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for its investigative efforts. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Irene C. Berger. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan T. Storage prosecuted the case.
