Kanawha County man receives nine-year sentence for drug distribution

Donald Renard Taylor, 50, of Dunbar, West Virginia, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for distributing methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber.

According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, Taylor sold 104.63 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $850 on July 31, 2023. He also admitted to selling 27.71 grams of methamphetamine for $240 on June 14, 2023, and 55.75 grams for $440 on July 13, 2023. All transactions took place in Dunbar.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Taylor’s residence on August 2, 2023. During the search, officers seized nearly 140 grams of methamphetamine, more than 200 grams of fentanyl, over half a kilogram of cocaine, and almost $20,000 in cash. Six firearms were also confiscated from the home.

United States Attorney Moore Capito announced the sentencing and recognized the work of the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), which includes several local police departments and sheriff’s offices as well as support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuted the case.
