Huntington man pleads guilty to gun charge related to drug distribution

A Huntington resident, Robert Craig Hatfield, also known as “Bobby,” has pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge. According to information presented in court, Hatfield admitted to carrying a firearm during and in relation to the distribution of fentanyl.

Court documents show that on February 11, 2025, Hatfield sold a SCCY 9mm pistol and about 4.5 grams of heroin to a confidential informant for $340. The transaction took place at his residence in Huntington after he arranged it beforehand.

Hatfield is set for sentencing on November 24, 2025. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and could receive up to life in prison, along with up to five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the plea and recognized the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative work.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor is prosecuting the case.

“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).”
