Harrison County physician receives two-year sentence for illegal Adderall prescriptions

A doctor from Harrison County, West Virginia, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegally prescribing Adderall and destroying evidence related to the investigation. David Elwood Hess, 61, of Bridgeport, was found guilty earlier this year on charges of improper prescribing and destruction of records during a federal probe.

According to court proceedings, Hess issued Adderall prescriptions to patients without a legitimate medical purpose and outside accepted medical practice. After authorities seized his phone as part of the investigation, Hess remotely wiped the device.

Following his prison term, Hess will be subject to three years of supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Cogar and Eleanor Hurney led the prosecution for the government. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Kleeh oversaw the trial.
