Robert Lee Moran, a 46-year-old resident of Mount Hope, has been sentenced to nine months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for distributing fentanyl. The sentence was handed down in Beckley, West Virginia.

Court documents reveal that on January 29, 2024, Moran sold approximately 0.857 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant for $100 in Beckley. Moran admitted to arranging and conducting the transaction as part of his guilty plea.

On April 30, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Moran’s residence. They seized two bags suspected to contain fentanyl, multiple firearms, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Moran’s criminal record includes previous convictions for domestic battery, destruction of property, possession of a hoax bomb, and harboring a fugitive.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentencing and praised the investigative efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit comprises officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Beckley Police Department.

Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk delivered the sentence while Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Alexander A. Redmon prosecuted the case.
