John Gray, 40, from Oak Hill, West Virginia, was sentenced on December 2, 2025, to three years and one month in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. After his release, he will serve three years of supervised release.
Court documents show that on March 28, 2023, Gray sold about two pounds of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Oak Hill. He admitted to this sale as well as selling approximately 848 grams of methamphetamine to the same informant on May 1, 2023. Gray also acknowledged selling three grams of fentanyl on both May 3 and May 6, 2024. During an interview with law enforcement on March 1, 2024, Gray stated that he had been distributing about three grams of fentanyl three times per week from April 2023 until his arrest in March 2024.
Gray is one of four individuals indicted by a federal grand jury for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy. All four pleaded guilty. Phillip Gray, John’s brother and also from Oak Hill, was sentenced on October 15, 2025, to ten years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute at least fifty grams of methamphetamine. Leondus Whittenburg from Beckley received seven years and eleven months in prison with three years of supervised release for distributing five grams or more of methamphetamine. Daemien Thompson from Oak Hill pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fifty grams or more of methamphetamine and is set for sentencing on January 8, 2026.
United States Attorney Moore Capito announced the sentences and recognized the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Central Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk handed down the sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons and former Assistant United States Attorney Andrew D. Isabell.
