Charleston man pleads guilty to federal drug crime involving methamphetamine

Jason K. Hairston, a 27-year-old from Charleston, has pleaded guilty to distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The plea was entered following evidence presented in court showing that between September 2024 and January 2025, Hairston sold approximately 1.1 kilograms of methamphetamine for $5,000 over four transactions. He also admitted to selling around 61.3 grams of heroin for $4,200 and an AR-style pistol for $1,000 during the same period. All sales were made to a confidential informant in Charleston.

A search warrant executed on February 4 at Hairston’s residence led to the seizure of nearly two kilograms of methamphetamine, firearms, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and over $18,000 in cash.

Hairston’s sentencing is set for November 6, where he faces a minimum sentence of ten years and could receive life imprisonment along with fines up to $10 million.

The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston who praised the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their investigation efforts. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum under the supervision of United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
