David Walter McCauley, a 66-year-old resident of Buckhannon, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for charges related to child pornography. According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, McCauley enticed a 17-year-old boy into engaging in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing photos and videos. Authorities seized several electronic devices from McCauley’s residence and office that contained illegal images and videos of the minor involved in sexual acts with him.

Following his prison sentence, McCauley will be subjected to 10 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley Crockett on behalf of the government.

The investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pittsburgh Police Department, and Upshur County Sheriff’s Office. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet while also identifying and rescuing victims.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
