Landon Joseph Cartwright, a 23-year-old resident of Bluefield, was sentenced on Apr. 13 to one year and six months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine.
The sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug-related offenses in the region.
According to court documents and statements made in court, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Cartwright’s residence on June 13, 2023, where they seized approximately 443 grams of methamphetamine. Cartwright admitted as part of his guilty plea that he possessed the methamphetamine with intent to distribute it.
United States Attorney Moore Capito announced the sentence and recognized the work of several agencies involved in the investigation, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. The task force includes members from multiple local law enforcement agencies such as the West Virginia State Police, Bluefield Police Department, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.
Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons prosecuted the case.
